What you done done —
Let things drift
Until the riots come.

Whoa! I was born in Beaumont in 1949 and this is the very first time that I’ve heard about this writing by Langston Hughes. I was vaguely told about the riots that happened by either my parents or any other relative. This was not taught in any school that I attended in Beaumont. It’s like it never happened. Black people here never talk about it even today. I’m amazed to learn about this. Whew.
