But it previously shows up in Edward Payson Tenney, <i><a href="https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Silent_House/JeUTAAAAYAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=augustine+%22beasts+of+burden%22+%22marks+of+their+toil%22&pg=PA82&printsec=frontcover">Jubilee Essays: A Plea for the Unselfish Life</a></i>, "The Retributions" (1862), though again with no original citation.<br><br>
