Often shortened down, as "Einstein's Law," to something like "Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler" or "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler."<br><br>

This in turn appears to first come from an article "<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1950/01/08/archives/how-a-difficult-composer-gets-that-way-harpsichordist.html?searchResultPosition=2#:~:text=I%20also%20remember%20a%20remark%20of%20Albert%20Einstein%2C%20which%20certainly%20applies%20to%20music.%20He%20said%2C%20in%20effect%2C%20that%20everything%20should%20be%20as%20simple%20as%20it%20can%20be%2C%20but%20not%20simpler!">How a 'Difficult' Composer Gets That Way</a>," by Roger Sessions, <i>New York Times</i> (1950-01-08), where he says (clearly paraphrasing):<br><br>

<blockquote>I also remember a remark of Albert Einstein, which certainly applies to music. He said, in effect, that everything should be as simple as it can be but not simpler!</blockquote><br>

Shortly after that, other references were made elsewhere treating the phrase as an actual quotation by Einstein.<br><br>
