Here are some ways to keep track of what’s going on with WIST without actually coming to this WordPress site (because that is soooo 2005).
Fediverse
I manually repost top-level info on quotes I add or update on my main site over to Friendica. If you are on any platform that uses ActivityPub (such as Mastodon, Threads, Friendica, Hubzilla, Streams, etc.) or Diaspora*, you can search in the application for the profile wist@friendica.world to add me to your feed. You can also go directly to the e-posting site to see what it looks like and follow from there.
Note that this includes both new and updated quotes, but only basic quote-and-citation, no added notes or alternate translations.
RSS (Atom)
If you use an RSS feed reader, you can follow WIST that way. There are two feeds you can use:
| Feed | https://wist.info or (if that doesn’t work) https://wist.info/feed/ | https://friendica.world/feed/wistquotes/ |
|---|---|---|
| Source: | My WIST website | My Fediverse reposting of WIST content |
| Includes which quotations? | New quotes only | New and Updated quotes |
| Includes what content? | Quotation, citation, notes, alternate translations | Quotation, citation |
You can try both in an RSS reader and see which you prefer. Note that you can also follow thee feeds through the Email option, below.
You can subscribe to WIST by email by using any service that translates RSS feeds into email subscriptions. The two I have tested are:
- Blogtrottr: https://blogtrotter.com
- Feedrabbit: https://feedrabbit.com
Both of those services do a good, straightforward posting of new WIST quotations to you by email, either individually or collected periodically. When prompted for a feed URL, use one of the ones listed above in the RSS section.
You can also use them to follow other websites, blogs, Fediverse accounts, etc. While they do have a pay tier, I found the free tier worked just fine.
Note: I modify the RSS feed template substantially to make WIST look the way I want it to, which works great until WordPress updates things in the background, at which point the RSS template reverts to “normal” which bollixes up the WIST feed, losing the name of the author in the post titles. Sometimes I don’t catch that for a few days; if you notice it, please feel free to contact me at Dave (at) wist.info.

Please delete my former address: hoffeld@erols.com
I don’t see any subscriptions for the old address.
@Dave
Regrettably, I just received today’s mailing at the old address (hoffeld@erols.com) rather than the new (jterrellhoffeld@gmail.com) address.
Ah — you must be getting via Feedburner, then? I have now deactivated the hoffeld@erols.com address.

An Irish story
A senior emerged from the WC with his trousers unzipped.
On his oversight being discretely pointed out by a colleague, the senior, unfazed, replied:-
“A dead bird never fell out of its nest”
